When do I have to register?

Once you complete your training program  :

  • Your educational institution will send the OIIQ your transcript, indicating that you have successfully completed the program;
  • The Order will then send, to your mailing address, the documentation you need to register for the examination. Make sure that you update the e-mail address in your file, if necessary, by writing to etudiants-br@oiiq.org.

Your e-mail address must be unique and exclusive, so as to make sure that communications from the OIIQ are confidential and so that you can access the reserved section.

Although you may take up to two years and three tries to pass the OIIQ professional examination and meet the other conditions for obtaining your permit, you are required to register for the professional examination each time you are notified of the examination.

Registration for the professional examination

Register online in the reserved section. Pay the registration fees by the deadline of February 13, 2017.

Important  : Your registration must be valid and complete before you register for the professional examination. If you would like any further information, please contact the Registrar’s Office and Examinations at 514 935-2501, option 2, or 1 800 363-6048, option 2, or etudiants-br@oiiq.org.

If you have been the subject of a decision of a Canadian court convicting you of a criminal offence or if the disciplinary council of a professional order in Quebec or a professional body outside of Quebec has rendered a decision leading to the revocation of your permit, your striking off the Roll, or the restriction or suspension of your right to practise, you must report this in section 3 of the form.

Confirmation of registration for the professional examination

Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation of registration and the necessary information: location, date and time of the exam and the exam procedure.

The final choice of the examination centre where you will be invited to sit the examination is at the Order’s discretion. You may ask to sit the exam at a specific centre, however.

Failure to sit the examination

It is important to report for every examination session to which you are invited.

Any unjustified failure to sit the examination is considered failure of the examination. Acceptable reasons for absence provided in the Regulation are  :

  • health problem
  • childbirth
  • death of your father, mother, child or spouse
  • unavoidable circumstances

You must provide proof in the form of a medical certificate, a birth certificate or a death certificate, as applicable. If you cite unavoidable circumstances to justify your absence, your situation will be analyzed by the Executive Committee. Unavoidable circumstances are defined as a serious, unforeseeable and unavoidable event beyond your control.

Accommodation measures

To ensure that you can take the examination under the best possible conditions, you may request accommodation measures if you have a disability, as specified in the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms (CQLR, c. C-12). For more information, see the website of the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (http://www.cdpdj.qc.ca/en/droits-de-la-personne/Pages/default.aspx.)

Along with your request, you must include with your online examination registration form :

  • a letter justifying the accommodations requested (please be specific);
  • a medical certificate or a report by a specialist, identifying your disability and the necessary accommodation measures;
  • all documents describing the accommodations made for you during your studies, if any.

These documents must be recent (in the past five years). Otherwise the Order may ask for other documentary proof to justify your request.

Any consultations with professionals are at your expense.

The Order may grant all of the accommodation measures requested or only some of them, in which case it will provide the appropriate explanations.

If you pass the professional examination, you will be issued a regular permit, unless you do not have a knowledge of French appropriate to the practice of nursing or if you wish to practise on a Native reserve, provided you live or have lived there.

If you would like any further information, please contact the Registrar’s Office and Examinations at 514 935-2501, option 2, or 1 800 363-6048, option 2, or etudiants-br@oiiq.org
